Left Right Story

Submitted by Melissa D. Cavanaugh of Wisconsin

Right from the start, I knew we were in for it. I’d left my Christmas cookie recipe at work, and right when I walked in the door, my boys, Jimmy Wright, Justin Wright, and Josh Wright, wanted to make the Christmas cookies that we are rightfully famous for.

“Boys, I’m heating up leftovers, and then we’re doing the right thing and going back to my office for my recipe!” I told them.

“But Mom, when you left this morning, you said you’d hurry right home with the recipe so we could get started!” Jimmy Wright cried. “Yes!” the other Wright boys chimed in, “We want to make cookies right away!” Just then, Matt Wright, my right-hand man and hubby, came in and said, “Look boys…Mom’s had a long day.

Right or wrong, I’ve got a recipe from left field that’ll blow you away!” I hesitated. I thought. “Right!” I yelled. “Let’s give Dad the chance to make things right!” So my left-handed, right-minded husband grabbed his mom’s cookbook we’d been given and looked left and right until he discovered what he wanted. “The old famous Wright-Family recipe!” he boasted.

I looked over my left shoulder at the clock. “You have one hour to make this right! Get started right now!” I said with a mischievous grin, ready to see if he could salvage what was left of the night.

One hour and a rightfully messy kitchen later, a delicious sugar cookie aroma drifted right out of the kitchen and left me feeling festive. Walking into the kitchen, I knew right away that the Wright men did the right thing and left nothing to chance – a new Christmas cookie tradition had been born!

Never again will I be left without a recipe – the Wright one made its way right into my heart!
